The construction of Mini Epiphany (2023). Every element in the mindscape is first sketched, then laser cut and painted before assembly.
Rong’s art practice draws from her pursuit of solace and safe spaces. Inspired by the natural world, Rong builds Edens, both real and figurative, as refuge and timely reminders of necessary discipline in keeping a healthy mind. She refers to these sculptures as mindscapes, and invites viewers to pause, tarry, and immerse themselves in these little worlds.
The mind is a garden
What seeds have you planted
What thoughts have you watered?
So often we forget that our mental scape
Requires time and discipline
Remove the weeds from the root
Speak kindly to the flowers
Watch for little miracles, like butterflies and bumblebees
Embrace the rain and smile
When the sun shines again
